Some thoughts: - it’s a cultural change that needs to happen - software is not _the_ solution - there may be way to build software to _support_ a better, calmer and more humane culture of “using computers” - cultural change is “impossible” to orchestrate https://x.com/komorama/status/1996971981414322492 @unknown: @rsms The personalization promise is interesting, but is there a ceiling? Some qualities - attunement, feeling seen - seem to scale inversely with reach. Maybe the best software can do is get out of the way, i.e., remove friction from connection rather than try to manufacture resonance @unknown: Business incentives (and even design ethos) often stand in direct conflict with personalization. For example, imagine if Figma’s UI could be customized, how would support/help documentation work? How could you learn by watching an expert on YouTube if their Figma looks totally different from yours? Then there’s a whole set of challenges around data — it’s clearly valuable to businesses to manage their product’s data (ie “cloud”.) Cheaper to develop, customer lock-in, etc. To make a change here we need to come up with incentives that _clearly_ lead to at _least_ as good of a business as traditional practice
